Outline Design
A native iOS app where users describe what they want to color and receive AI-generated outline drawings, tracing worksheets, and more. Features smart region detection that identifies closed borders in real-time for kid-friendly coloring. I wanted something my kids would love, and I felt comfortable with them playing with it.
The Challenge
Creating an app that feels magical, is educational, and SAFE for children while remaining sophisticated enough for adults, with intuitive prompt building, reliable AI generation, and a coloring experience that respects the lines.
The Approach
Built a guided prompt system with multiple generation modes, implemented smart region detection for fill-within-the-lines coloring, and designed a playful UI with PencilKit integration that scales from iPhone to iPad. Implemented smart-detection for age-inappropriate prompts with graceful handling.
The Results
Shipped a production iOS app with six distinct generation modes, smart coloring that stays inside lines, unique customization for tracing worksheets and connect-the-dots, and a credit-based monetization system via StoreKit 2. And.. my kids love it.
